John Finn Obituary Finn, John F., Jr. age 94,of Wayzata passed away peacefully February 13, 2006. John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary; sons Jim Finn, John (Lynn) Finn III and Tom (Susan) Finn; daughter Kerry (Michael) Finn-Levy; grandchildren John (Maggie) Finn IV, Molly Finn, Whitney (BJ) Klinck, Katie Finn and Bill Finn; great-granddaughter Bella Finn; and sisters Dorothy Adolfson and Marjorie Ericson. A graduate of North High, John attended law school at the University of Minnesota and began his legal career from 1936 to 1941 at Junell Driscoll Fletcher Dorsey and Baker, the predecessor to Dorsey and Whitney LLP. During World War II he was legal counsel in Washington DC for the office of Price Administration. After the Battle of the Bulge he got a commission in the Navy through the end of the war from 1944 to 1946, serving as Lieutenant JG to Lieutenant Commander. Returning to Minnesota in 1946, he was hired as an attorney in the law department of General Mills. He retired from General Mills in 1976 as Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel. In 1976 he rejoined Dorsey and Whitney and served of counsel, focusing on corporate law with a concentration on anti-trust. He became retired partner in 1986. John believed in community involvement and was proud of his accomplishments in this arena. He played key roles in local political reform, serving with the Citizen's League and as Chairman of the Minneapolis Charter Review Commission. Close to his heart was the Minnesota Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, which he incorporated and for which he served many years as its volunteer President and Chair. He loved Minnesota, especially his early days on the North side of Minneapolis, and the wonderful people he grew up with there and at the University of Minnesota. Many of these became nationally known and life-long friends: Eric Sevareid, Harrison Salisbury, Judge Earl Larson, Orville Freeman, Leonard Lindquist, Justice Harry Blackmun and Chief Justice Warren Burger. John and these friends were part of a generation that proved the American dream, rising from little to much, setting a standard of honesty and industry that served the betterment of those who followed. John and his wife Mary have deeply touched their family and friends, leaving a legacy that will not be quickly forgotten. Private family service Thursday. Memorials preferred to the Minnesota Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
