John Ruce Obituary
Ruce, John Alexander age 89, long time resident of Deephaven. Died peacefully on February 27, 2014 at Freedom Pointe of Minnnetonka. Born August 1, 1924 in Duluth, MN to Rudolph Alexander Ruce and Thresa Gregorich Ruce. John graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1942 as Class President, and entered the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet program in 1943, earning Second Lieutenant rank as a flight instructor in B-17 bombers. John then enrolled at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a B.S in Electrical Engineering in 1949 and enjoyed a long career with Twin Cities technology companies, retiring from Research, Incorporated as a Vice President. John never forgot his love of northern Minnesota and spent much of his time at the family cabin near Grand Rapids, fishing, boating and entertaining friends and family on Johnson Lake. John was an early and long time volunteer with Amicus, sponsoring inmates of Stillwater Prison, as well as several years volunteering at the Minnetonka Teen Hot Line as a late night phone counselor. He traveled to the Pine Ridge Reservation to help residents develop carpentry skills and served in many leadership roles at St. Luke Presbyterian Church. Survived by wife, Joyce of Minnetonka; sons, David (Lynda) of Minneapolis, Steven (Irene) of Orono and grandsons, Philip (Mary) of Minneapolis and Charles (Heather) of San Diego. Memorial celebration is scheduled for May 3 at 3 PM at St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Minnetonka. Please direct memorials to St. Luke Presbyterian Church, Minnetonka, MN.
