Kate Gibbs Obituary
Gibbs, Kate, Age 101, passed away October, 13, 2011 at her home in Wayzata. She was John Deeres great- granddaughter and was very proud of his revolutionizing the farming industry in North America. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Deere Velie and Louise Koon Velie; sisters, Josephine Krogness, Grace James, and brother, Charles Koon Velie; her husband Merrill H. Gibbs; children, Merrill H. Gibbs Jr., Marjorie Louise Japy and son-in-law, John S. Bacon. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and had the respect of all those who knew her. She graduated from Northrup Collegiate School (Blake School) and attended Pine Manor. She was very active in the Minneapolis Foundation, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Junior League of Minneapolis, Big Brothers and Sisters Organization, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Minnesota Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, Wayzata Garden Club; She was a member of Woodhill Country Club, The Minneapolis Club, and the Rio Verde Country Club. Survived by her daughter, Pamela Gibbs Bacon; son-in-law, Bernard Japy; grandchildren, Michael Bacon, Jeffery Bacon (Lorena), Stephen Bacon, (Melanie), Kate Bacon Bullings (Tony), Philippe Japy (Mary Christine), Christian Japy, Lisa Basilio (Tierry), Kate Marincic (Tom) and great- grandchildren, Erin Japy, Nathan Marincic, Luca Basilio, Ashly Bacon, Kate Bacon, John M. Bacon, Grace Bacon, Wellington Bullings, Kyla Bullings, and Naima Bullings. Memorial service Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lakewood Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis with reception following. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society 2520 Pilot Knob Rd., Ste. 150, Mendota Heights, MN 55120 or to the Salvation Army, 900 N. 4th St., Minneapolis, MN 55401.
