Kurtis Allan Greenley, age 84, of Long Lake, Minnesota passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, surrounded by family. Kurt was born on March 1, 1942 in Litchfield, Minnesota to Evelyn (Tornell) Greenley and Kermit Greenley.

Kurt grew up in Dassel, Minnesota. He was active in school and church activities. He quarterbacked the Dassel High School varsity football team to a conference championship his senior year and was named an all-conference player. Kurt participated in high school plays, was on the basketball team, and played trombone in the high school band.

After graduating from Dassel High School in 1960, Kurt attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus. During his years at the University, Kurt joined the Minnesota chapter of Acacia Fraternity, forging lifelong friendships and cultivating professional skills. After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Kurt attended the University of Minnesota Law School. During the summers of 1965 and 1966, Kurt worked at the United States Justice Department in Washington D.C., developing a lifelong love for the nation’s capital. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1967, Kurt spent a year clerking for Justice James C. Otis Jr. on the Minnesota Supreme Court.

On July 20, 1968, Kurt married Beverly Joan Mullner of St. Paul. That same year he joined the Minneapolis law firm Lindquist & Vennum (L&V) where he served as a litigation attorney and partner for nearly five decades. He was well respected by both clients and colleagues for his professionalism, attention to detail, and wide breadth of knowledge, in addition to his willing availability as a mentor to others.

As Kurt transitioned into retirement from L&V, he became Dassel City Attorney and founded K. Greenley LLC, providing neutral arbitration and legal services. He worked at both positions until the autumn of 2025.

Kurt was a founding member of the Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum and the Dassel Area Historical Society. Kurt had a significant volunteer role in the creation of the exhibit entitled Seed Corn: From Maize to Amazing. He also served as their pro bono attorney for 14 years.

Kurt is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Beverly Joan (Mullner) Greenley; daughter Karalynn Greenley (Jeffrey) Marr, son Scott (Leah) Greenley; and grandchildren Garrett, Elliott and Adelaide Marr, and Mylee, Vivienna, Josetta, and Broden Greenley. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ardyce Greenley Gilmer.

Kurt was a devoted husband, father and grandfather for whom his family was his most cherished blessing. He will be remembered for being quick to laugh and for his kindness towards others.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, October 2nd at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church, 17205 County Rd 6, Plymouth, MN. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. with a light lunch to follow. Kurt will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
