Laurie Ann Busyn
October 21, 1944 – December 13, 2025
Laurie Ann Busyn passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at her home in Wayzata, Minnesota, surrounded by the family she devoted her life to loving. After a courageous and grace-filled journey with Lewy Body Dementia, Laurie's gentle spirit was set free.
Born on October 21, 1944, in Minneapolis, Laurie spent her entire life in Wayzata, a community she cherished deeply. She grew up on Benton Avenue, where she formed lifelong friendships, including her treasured friendship with Marilyn Richter. Laurie graduated from Wayzata High School in 1962, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the Varsity Wayzata Trojans Dance Team—early signs of her energy, creativity, and love of community.
Laurie attended St. Cloud State University, where she met the love of her life, Mike, on her first day of English class. They were married on October 12, 1963, beginning a remarkable 62-year love story rooted in kindness, partnership, and unwavering devotion. After a brief time in St. Cloud, Laurie returned to Wayzata, where she designed or built eight homes, each reflecting her impeccable taste and attention to detail.
Above all else, Laurie was devoted to her family. A loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, she always placed others before herself. She remodeled a home next door to her mother's on Benton Avenue so she could care for her and was ever-present for her children's and grandchildren's games, performances, and milestones.
Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She cherished weekly adventures with them and family traditions, especially at Bay Lake, where the family spent 35 cherished years at "the cabin." Laurie delighted in planning creative activities, creating family traditions, and sharing her many talents, including calligraphy and memory bookmaking.
Laurie's love for people inspired a lifetime of service. She served as President of the Birchview PTA, volunteered at Minneapolis General Hospital, and was a proud 42-year member of the Junior League of Minneapolis. She spent 40 years singing with the Leaguaires and volunteered as a child advocate, tutor, and patient advocate. Laurie was also a devoted member of Wayzata Community Church and served as President of the Waytonka Club.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Laurel M. and May E. Johnson; her beloved granddaughter, Laurel Josephine Busyn; her brothers-in-law, Denny Busyn, Tom Busyn, Jerry Busyn, and Ken Donaghue; her cousin Sue Holden; her aunt Mildred Pauly; and her niece Anne Girton.
She is survived by her husband, Mike; her sons, Scott (Margaret) and Tom (Tracy); her grandchildren, Hunter, Haley, Isabel, Trafton, and Lauren; her sister, Priscilla Donaghue; Priscilla's sons, Tim Donaghue and family, and Michael Donaghue and family; and many loving sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Laurie leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, creativity, and grace. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN. Visitation will take place one hour prior.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the hospice caregivers at Park Nicollet Health.
