Born November 23, 1943 in Bemidji, MN – Died April 26, 2026 in Venice, FL after a short illness.
Larry was born and raised in Bemidji, Minnesota. A standout athlete, he excelled in basketball and helped lead his 1961 senior-year team to the title game of the Minnesota Boys State High School Tournament. He went on to attend Bemidji State University on a basketball scholarship, where he graduated and met his first wife, Linda. Together they had two sons, Brian and Paul.
In 1984, Larry married the love of his life, Dianne. They shared more than 41 years of marriage filled with adventure and joy, spending much of their retirement exploring the world.
Larry dedicated 35 years to the Wayzata School District as a teacher, serving at multiple schools throughout the district and one year as principal. After retiring from teaching, he and Dianne moved to Venice, FL, where he took up his second career as a part time realtor.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Hollie Higgins and his sister Carol Olson (Richard).
He is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Higgins; his two sons, Brian (Liz) and Paul (Patti); three grandchildren, Elise, Kate, and Matthew Higgins, and two sisters, Sharon Fischtrom and Marilyn Gresser (Peter); along with many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws; additionally two bonus step grandchildren, Sam and Max Pederson.
Larry was loved and will be missed by many. He was known for his positive outlook and often said, he "never had a bad day."
A celebration of Larry's life will be held this summer on July 16, 2026 at:
