Obituary

Lois Kemp Obituary Kemp, Lois (McClure) Lois passed away Nov 7, 2023, at age 88 in Minnesota, her home of 47 years. She was a firm believer in education, good cooking, and what women can achieve. She raised two entrepreneurial daughters, encouraging them to become whatever they dreamed. Lois was born in Hardmoney, Kentucky and grew up in Symsonia, Kentucky. She graduated from Symsonia High School in 1953 and achieved a BS in Home Economics from Murray State College in 1957. She went on to earn a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1963 from the University of Maryland on a 4-H Fellowship. Throughout her life, Lois encouraged women in Kentucky, Indiana, and Minnesota to explore possibilities and become all they wanted to be. Lois was driven to improve and make things the best they could be. She was proud to work for Byerlys (now Lunds & Byerlys) grocery stores as a Home Economist for decades, retiring when she was 70. She helped write two Byerlys cookbooks, created and tested an endless number of recipes, and loved helping customers. During retirement, Lois enjoyed cultural outings, book club reading, phone conversations, picnics in nearby parks, and coaching her daughters on everything from early childhood development to homemaking and more. Her daughters talked to her every day, and she listened, shared a laugh, and gave them advice (always spot-on right). She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by parents, RJ McClure & Mary McClure, and sister, Jeanette Coleman. Survived by brother, Larry McClure (Carol), daughters, Jana Kemp (Glenn Harris) and Mary Murray (Mike) and granddaughters Lucy Murray and Kandyce Allers.
