Obituary

Lucy Hesby Obituary Age 26, of New York, New York, formerly of Plymouth. Passed away on March 12, 2017, due to complications from a rare autoimmune blood disorder. Lucy was surrounded by her dad, Jay; mom, Wendy; sister, Sally; and brother, Jamin, when her heart beat for the last time. In addition to her parents and siblings, Lucy is survived by her grandparents, Darrel and Janet Hesby and Patrick and Joy Weekley, and her uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends who loved her so very much. Lucy was a 2009 graduate of and top 10 student at Wayzata High School. She went on to attend The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania from which she graduated Summa cum laude in 2013. Lucy was an Investment Banking Associate, Mergers & Acquisitions, at Deutsche Bank in New York, New York. Lucys name means "bringer of light" and that is what she did to all those who knew and loved her. A celebration of Lucys life will take place on Friday, March 17, St. Patricks Day (Lucy was part Irish and loved Ireland after studying at Trinity College in Dublin her junior year of college). Service is at 1 PM with visitation starting at 11 AM at Speak the Word Church, 515 Jersey Avenue South in Golden Valley. Reception to follow. Memorials to the American Red Cross. Lucy was a beautiful, strong, kind, positive, smart and very talented young woman whose laugh would light up the atmosphere wherever she was. Lucy had an insatiable desire to learn and experience everything life had to offer. She was a voracious reader from the moment she learned how to read, which lead her to explore all that she read about in her books. Lucy was a beautiful, sweet little girl who loved doing puzzles; praising God; Barney, the dinosaur, and Disney movies (101 Dalmations, Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and then later, The Parent Trap and The Princess Diaries). Lucy loved math and was a math whiz; she was on the math team throughout her school years and completed all of her high school math in the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Mathematics Program by the end of ninth grade. During her sophomore year of high school, Lucy used to do her AP Calculus homework for "fun" as a break from studying AP European History (Who does that??). Lucy became an avid baseball fan early on, while watching her little brothers baseball games. She loved the Minnesota Twins and, most definitely, did not like the Yankees (well before she moved to New York City). Lucy also became a devoted Minnesota Wild hockey fan and was so very happy to receive a signed Charlie Coyle plaque from her brother, Jamin, as a belated Christmas gift, which she had with her in the hospital in New York. Lucy also loved the Beatles and Batman. She loved to travel, and during her growing up years, took many family vacations to all parts of the country, visiting mostly living history type places. During college, Lucy went to Tokyo; Ghana, West Africa; and while studying abroad at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, traveled all over Europe. Lucy traveled to Istanbul with her good friend, Josh, and celebrated New Years there. Last August, as a thank you to her mom for her support when she was in the hospital in New York in 2015, Lucy and Wendy spent two weeks in Italy, mostly at a villa in Tuscany, which is where this photo was taken. Lucy then went on to meet her good friend, Julia, in Greece. Lucy made sure she got home in time to hit the Minnesota State Fair and take a weekend trip with all the girls in the family to Door County, Wisconsin, a beloved annual family vacation spot since Lucy was six months old. Lucy lived her life to the fullest, striving to be the best she could be for herself and others. Lucy loved life, but most of all, she loved her family and friends. Until we meet again we all love Lucy! Funeral Service Friday March 17, 2017 , 1:00 PM at Speak the Word Church
