Marcella Colyer Obituary
of Wayzata Age 98
Born July 15, 1917 in Minneapolis MN. Died on October 14, 2015 of natural causes at Freedom Pointe in Minnetonka.
Preceded in death by Father, Basil George Hall; mother, Mildred Hazel Hall and husband, Theodore (Ted) Irving Colyer.
She is survived by son, Jeff (Lynn); grandchildren, Lindsey Colyer and Adam Colyer, and lifelong best friend, Mary Chapman.
She grew up near Theodore Wirth Park in North Minneapolis. After graduating from North High School in Minneapolis in 1935, she attended the University of MN earning a dental hygienist degree in 1937.
She worked as dental hygienist for Dr. Tender in Minneapolis. In the late 1940's she transitioned to a position with Russell Miller Milling Company and in 1950 accepted a position with the Hennepin County Republican Party. She attended the Republican National Convention in 1952 as support for the delegates and the MN Republican Party. She was thrilled to chant "I like Ike".
In 1955 she married Theodore Colyer and moved to Wayzata where she lived until she moved to senior housing in 1998. She was an active member of Wayzata Community Church, a member of the Waytonka Club, a member of the Garden Club of Wayzata, a member of the womens league at Burl Oaks Golf Club, and an active community volunteer. She especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining in her home.
She enjoyed spending summers at her family lake cabin in Brainerd. She had many fond memories of spending time with family and friends at "the lake".
She was a loving mother, grandmother and loyal friend to many.
A special thank you to the staff at Freedom Pointe in Minnetonka. The staff was extremely kind and caring for the five years she lived there. They treated her with love, dignity and respect.
A celebration of her life will be on November 28th at 10:00 am at Wayzata Community Church.
Private family interment will be held on Oct 23rd.
