Obituary

Marguerite Klobe Obituary Klobe, Marguerite "Peggy" Chamberlin of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Herman Klobe, whom she had missed deeply since his passing two and a half years ago; as well as by her parents, Albert Samuel Chamberlin and Marguerite Pallotti. Peggy was born and raised in 1922 in Hartford, CT, where she also attended the University of Connecticut. In 1943, at a gathering for soldiers set to depart for World War II, she met a young officer from Minnesota. Arthur would frequently recount that evening, explaining that he made a "direct beeline for the most beautiful girl in the room." Arthur and Peggy married three weeks later, immediately before his departure for Europe. Upon his decorated return from the war, they moved to Minnesota to begin their long life together. Peggy was devoted to Art and their four children, as well as to her friends and the community. She was an active member of and volunteer at numerous organizations, including the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Auxiliary, the Minneapolis Children's Hospital, the Friends of the Institute, the Hopkins Women's Club, and the League of Women Voters. Peggy was particularly enthusiastic about her involvement with St. David's Episcopal Church, Interlachen Country Club, and the Minnesota Historical Society. In their retirement, Peggy and Art spent the winter months in Naples, FL. Peggy had loved the beach since she was a child, and her twenty-six years in Naples were among her happiest times. Peggy loved being outdoors, and was an avid gardener and collector of seashells. Friends and family roundly admired her intricate needlework and beautifully knitted sweaters. She will be remembered for her sparkling wit, her great beauty, and her wonderfully infectious laugh. In her high school yearbook, the following caption was printed under Peggy's photograph: Lovely to look at, delightful to know. That phrase remained true about Peggy Chamberlin Klobe throughout her entire life. Peggy is survived by her four children, Kathrine Matthew (David) of St. Cloud, MN; Molly Klobe of New York, NY; John Klobe (Valerie) of Saratoga, CA; Barbara Klobe of San Jose, CA; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Goetz (Robert), Andrew Matthew (Lourdes), Sarah Rinn (Alexander), Katherine Klobe, and Michael Klobe; and her four great- granddaughters. She is also survived by her two sisters, Marianne Pallotti, of Redwood City, CA and Teresa Reilly, of Glastonbury, CT. Peggy's life will be celebrated at St. David's Episcopal Church, 13000 St. David Road in Minnetonka, at 11 AM Saturday, March 2, followed by a reception at Interlachen Country Club. There will be a visitation prior to the service at 10 AM. Interment Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Minnesota Historical Society, 345 Kellogg Blvd. W., St. Paul, MN 55102 as contributions to the Arthur H. and Marguerite C. Klobe Minnesota's Greatest Generation Legacy Fund.  Born: September 28, 1922 Death: February 23, 2013 Share your thoughts and memories in the guestbook.
