Maria 'Oma' Maag Obituary Age 88, of Plymouth, died April 9, 2025.
If you've ever been charmed into exchanging life stories with a random German lady whom you heard people call 'Oma,' you've probably met our Maria.
Even at the age of 88, her death came as a surprise. The best word to describe her is 'lebensfroh,' the German word for 'joyful' and 'full of life.'
From the time she left Germany at age 21, Maria had an insatiable wanderlust that took her all over the world. She made herself at home wherever her family and friends were. Sometimes that was living with nuns in Italy, biking in the Alps, or partying in New Zealand.
She loved good German beer, swans, pink tulips, lipstick, People magazine, and helping care for and support her 4 grandchildren. Whether she was relaxing with 2 grandsons at the duck pond, drinking beer with another grandson's college friends, or hosting reality tv watch parties with her granddaughter, she was a constant presence in their lives. She had an active Instagram and Snapchat account because she was, in her own words, 'with the program.'
Maria loved a lot of things about life, but she loved her 3 sons more than anything in the entire world. Through them and many others, her spirit will live on in love.
Preceded in death by Richard Maag. Survived by sons Rob (Sal), Terry (Linda), and Darrell (Ana) Maag; grandchildren Erik, Ellie, Hunter, and Jake; siblings Sophie, Angela, and Hans; nieces Marion, Gudrun, Uta, Angelika and Daniella; nephew Bernhard; and many beloved family members.
