Martha Hockel Obituary Hockel, Martha Penner Was born to David Penner and Katharina Penner on May 26, 1920 in Butterfield, Minnesota. Martha was the third youngest of twelve. She went to a one room school house. Later she attended Mt. Lake Christian day school. She graduated from Grace College of the Bible and a nursing school. After graduating from college in 1944 she began working at the Mountain Lake Hospital where she met dad (Henry Casper Hockel). They were married November 25, 1949. She raised her family and worked as a LPN until the late 1980's. After retiring from nursing she went to work for Target for a number of years and then entered full retirement. She had four children Judy (Hockel) Smith, Andrew Hockel, Rina (Hockel) Thompson and Janette (Hockel) Pharo. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her brothers and sisters, husband Henry Hockel, daughter, Judy Smith, sons-in-law, Phillip Smith, Daniel Thompson, grandson, Russell Smith, and great-grandson Christopher Peters. Survived by children Andrew Hockel, Rina Thompson, and Janette Pharo; son-in-law, Richard Pharo; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation Thursday June 30, 5-7 PM with memory sharing at 7 PM at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata. Funeral service Friday July 1, 11AM at the Fist Mennonite Church, 32040 650th Avenue, Butterfield, MN. Interment following at the church cemetery.
