Mary Gilles Obituary
Gilles, Mary E. (Angel Bunny)
Our loving, caring, funny, earthly Angel passed away peacefully October 16, 2014 and joined the Lords Legion of Heavenly Angels. Mary was born in St. Louis, MO to Virgil and Lola Wiltse. She graduated from Radnor High School in Wayne, PA and from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a BS in Education. Mary invited her former math instructor to the Sadie Hawkins Valentines Day Dinner at the Chi Omega Sorority and married him a year later in Falls City, NB.
Mary taught in the Hazelwood School District in St. Louis and held several paid and unpaid positions in the Wayzata School District after moving to Minnesota. Mary also worked as a retail sales consultant for womens fashions. Her uncanny eye for color was like a human Pantone Chart; her skill delighted her customers and bewildered her color-challenged husband.
Mary enjoyed reading biographies of historic figures and enjoyed the Bible for Dummies at Wayzata Community Church until her illness overtook her. She enjoyed travel with her family; boring her daughters with visits to historical sites and museums and rewarding them with trips to theme parks. In later years she enjoyed cruising with husband, Peter. Mary often proclaimed she never liked to compete against others but she loved queening brother-in-law, Walter at Hearts; beating her husband at Gin Rummy; and most of all, losing to her granddaughters at UNO. Mary was sneaky funny often slipping a little zinger into daily conversation. She will be dearly missed by her family for her humor, motherly guidance and most of all for her love.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, and special brother-in-law and special sister-in-law, Walter and Barbara Gilles. She is survived by Peter, her math instructor / husband of 47 years; daughter, Mary C. (Rob) Gilles-Schmidt, and granddaughters, Kelcy and Kylie of Germantown,WI; and daughter, Susan (Randy) Crowder, and granddaughters, Callie and Laci of Tomball,TX.
A private memorial service has been held with interment in the Columbarium at Wayzata Community Church. Memorials may be sent to Wayzata Community Church, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), the Frauenshuh Cancer Center at Methodist Hospital, or the donors choice.
