Dr. Mary Schaffer

Mary "Kay" Schaffer, age 80, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home on September 10, 2026.

Born and raised in St. Paul, Kay earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Arts in Education from the University of St. Thomas, and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. She worked as an educator, mentor, and researcher and was an active member of P.E.O.

Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Craig, in March 2025. She is survived by her children, Brian and Kristin (Eric); granddaughters, Brynja and Sveja; brother, Bruce; sister-in-law, Karen; nephew, Brad; and her devoted dog, Charlie.

After receiving her terminal diagnosis, Kay gathered with family and friends for a living celebration of life. In keeping with her wishes, no additional service will be held.

Kay lived with strength, purpose, curiosity, and love. She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply, friendships built over decades, and the unmistakable imprint of a woman who gave herself fully to the life she created.
