Obituary

Marybeth Basten, 81, of Medina, MN, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Betty and Lloyd Lemon.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 11, 1944, Marybeth grew up alongside her two brothers Bob and Tom. Together, the three of them built a lifetime bond rooted during a childhood full of loving stories together as only siblings can.

After completing College in Lake Forest, IL, Marybeth began her professional journey which spanned from advertising and copy editing, consulting, and ultimately becoming an award-winning recruiter. As a consummate professional, she built a remarkable career through her keen instincts for people - a gift that came naturally to someone who genuinely cared about others.

Marybeth was a radiant soul and devoted mother to Scott (Tammy) and Brett (Jessica), and cherished as ‘Grandma Ducky’ by Brady, Brooke, Dillon and Serena. Raising her two boys, she was extremely active, supportive and always showing up – education, cheering from the baseball diamonds, hockey rinks, you name it, she was present for every moment that mattered. Her grandchildren, Brady, Brooke, Dillon, and Serena, knew her as ‘Grandma Ducky’, and in that name lives every ounce of joy and tenderness she poured into them. She loved taking her grandkids to museums, zoos, and anywhere else she thought she could get a smile out of them.

Marybeth's love extended far beyond those she could reach. She loved volunteering and for decades, she was an active supporter of the MIA. Marybeth refused to let the world forget those who have been lost which included her cousin, Jeffrey. Every June, she traveled to Washington D.C. to attend the POW MIA Department of Defense briefings, keeping Jeff's memory alive and holding onto the hope of one day helping bring him home. It was an act of love as quiet as it was profound.

Her faith in God anchored everything she did. It shaped the way she loved, the way she served, and the way she lived fully – volunteering as a Liturgical Minister at church, traveling the world with curiosity, losing herself in a good book, and perfecting her golf game with the same sharp focus she brought to everything.

Marybeth was, in every sense of the word, a light. She walked into any room and lifted it - her laughter, warmth, and radiant spirit were contagious, and those lucky enough to know her felt it deeply. She leaves behind a world that is quieter without her, and hearts that are fuller for having known her.

A celebration of Marybeth’s life will be held at David Lee Funeral Home on June 28, 2026. Visitation from 1:00-2:00PM with her service at 2:00PM.
