Patty Smith Obituary
Smith, Patricia Rae Patty (nee Kadel) Born July 21, 1956, passed away at home in Wayzata, Minnesota on November 10, 2008 at the age of 52 after a courageous year-long journey with brain cancer. Survived by husband, David W. Smith, daughters Blake and Evan; parents Arlene and Eldon Kadel of Kansas, siblings Mike (Mary), Susan Newell (Shawn), Sharon Eck (Doug) all of Kansas, and Kelly (Jeannette) of Iowa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Patty graduated from Kansas University with a B.S. and M. S. She began teaching in a suburban Kansas City school district and eventually changed careers and worked for Wm. C. Brown Publishing where she met David. They were married in San Diego on February 29, 1988 and relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota. After her children were born, Patty become involved in numerous volunteer organizations, including the Minneapolis Junior League, where she chaired several committees and served on the Board of Directors twice. She also became heavily involved in the fundraising efforts of the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery with her husband, was on the Board of Directors for St. David's School in Minnetonka, and most recently became committed to Free Arts of Minnesota, working on board committees and one-on-one with abused children in the Free Arts Day program. She and her daughter, Evan, also volunteered at the Hennepin County Humane Society. She loved flower gardening, searching for antiques, and enjoying her many circles of friends. Patty's memorial service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (Snyder Auditorium) beginning at 11 a.m., with a buffet lunch immediately following the service. Parking fees will be waived at the Arboretum.
