Ponnamma Kurian Obituary Kurian, Ponnamma Age 75 and living in Plymouth, passed away November 5, 2015. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, H.S. Muralidhara; her children, Shubha Harris [Chuck Harris] and Shilesh Muralidhara [Nupur Parikh]; and grandchildren, Reya Harris, Azad Muralidhara, Lyla Harris, and Nikhil Muralidhara. Ponnamma was born in Kerala, India, and moved to the United States in 1971. She was an absolutely amazing and beautiful woman, and she was our hero. She was kind, giving, humble, compassionate, strong and determined. Born in a small village, she was a top student, gained entry as the first woman from a foreign state into Bangalore University, worked at India's national space institute, came on scholarship to America on a Fulbright travel fellowship, earned two Masters degrees and a PhD in Biochemistry, and together with her husband made a wonderful life for her family in America, while caring for both her and her husband's families in India. She would do absolutely anything in her power for those she loved, without asking for anything in return, and she loved and cared for many, in her quiet way. In a world that often favors those who can politic and charm, she was an underdog, the quiet, unassuming, iron-willed one who came from humble beginnings, accomplishing great things and traveling a great distance while carrying those she loved at all times with her. Her memory will fill all those she touched with courage, compassion, strength and determination. Ponnamma will be buried after a mass to be held in her honor at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 155 County Road 24 in Medina 11 AM on Tuesday, November 10, visitation starting at 10 AM.
