Bob was born and raised in Chicago. He often spoke of the meaningful impact of his grammar school, St. Mary’s of the Angels. He has continued to visit and support the school throughout his life. He earned a BS in Chemistry at Roosevelt University and a Masters in Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Bob started in the coatings industry, in 1959 as a chemist, with DeSoto Chemical Coatings where he later held positions in sales and project management. In 1969 he began a long and successful career at the Valspar Corporation. Upon his retirement in 1994, Bob held positions of President and Chief Operating Officer for 13 years.
Bobs interests and love revolved mostly around his family and friends. He loved attending his grandkids sporting events and many times traveled to watch their games. He also loved golf, bridge, road trips, traveling with a close group of childhood friends, hiking and countless trips to Menards which ultimately resulted in many rebate checks.
Bob was highly committed to philanthropy. He felt blessed and fortunate in life and felt strongly about lending a hand to others. His favorite organizations included veterans, educational opportunities for underserved youth, homeless teens, among others. In addition, he served on the board at Interfaith Outreach and donated his time to many other local organizations.
