Obituary

Roland Haugen Obituary Haugen, Roland Curtis Rollie, Ron. He was born November 26, 1933, the third son of Selmer and Nora (Lee) of Weston, Wisconsin. He died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the age of 79, at the Good Samaritan Society in Robbinsdale where God released him back to the loving arms of his parents. He was confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Esofea, Wisconsin and graduated from Westby High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years from April 1952 to April 1956. During his years in the service he traveled to many foreign countries aboard the cruiser USS Albany and the battleship USS Missouri where the peace treaty was signed. He sailed the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans and forever reminded what a beautiful world we live in. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gladys (Ripka); sons, Craig (Lori) of Ham Lake and Corey and partner, Tom McBrien of Richfield; brother, Blaine (Ardyce) of Westby; sisters, Lorraine of LaCrosse, Stella (Albert) of Coon Valley, Charlotte of Rockland and Darlene of Coon Valley and his forever friend, Roger Hofslien of Greenwood and special neighbor, Chuckie Arnold of Plymouth. He is preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Nora and a brother, Archie. Roland was chief engineer at Hennepin County Adult Corrections Facility in Plymouth for 35 years. He loved all the wonders of nature, the outdoors, ice fishing, snowmobiling, deer, duck, and turkey hunting. He especially loved his backyard pond which consisted of homemade wood duck houses and the many woodies hatched over the 25 years - he called himself Grandpa Woodie. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and guardian angels at Good Samaritan for their tender loving care. Memorial service 2 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata with visitation one hour prior to the service.
