Obituary

Rose Asao Obituary Surrounded by her family, Rose Asao passed peacefully into Gods loving arms on June 14th. Born and raised in Minot, ND, Rose was a natural born teacher. She spent her high school years in Japan and returned to the States to receive her teaching degree from Minot Teachers College. Upon graduating college, Rose met and married Ted, her husband of 60 yrs. She received her Masters of Education at the U of M in 1971. Rose taught at Mahtomedi before moving to Mound and teaching in Orono (1971-1984). Upon retiring, Rose honed her skill and love of sumei painting and was an active participant in The Nikkei Project, a gathering of 2nd Generation Japanese Americans. Perhaps her greatest teaching was through her unwavering faith. Rose & Ted hosted bible studies at their home over the span of 20 years, allowing many to grow in their knowledge and faith in God. Rose spent her last 60 years in the Lake Minnetonka home where she raised her family. She taught those who knew and cared for her the true meaning of resilience and positivity. Survived by daughters and sons; Kathleen (Maurice) Hamelin, Rosemary Iversen, David (Jeri), Philip (Joy) and Paul (Kathy) Asao. Grandchildren; Jennifer (Brett)Lyons, Celine and Laurant Hamelin, Daniel (Rachel) Iversen, Emily (Shep) Harder, Andrew Iversen, Martin, Torey, Cameron, Brandon Asao and Kelly Umland. Great grandchildren; Amaya Lyons, Colton Harder, Nathaniel Iversen. Preceded in death by husband Ted and brother George Yanagita. A celebration of Roses life with a time for sharing memories, will be held at the Lafayette Club, 2800 Northview Rd, Minnetonka Beach, MN 55361 on June 30, from 12-3pm. A private family burial will be held at Lakewood Cemetery.
