Ross Ross Sr Obituary
Thorfinnson, Ross L., Sr. Age 86, of Medina, died November 29, 2006. Survived by wife, Jane; children, Ross Jr. (Lynda), Vicki, Tom (Jamie) and Scott; grandchildren, Alexis and Ashley; sister, Doris Hodgin; sister-in-law, Virginia Helber (Ken) and nieces, Connie Jones, Debbie Eull, Nancy Nordfjord, Marilyn Whitehead and Julie Webb; adopted daughter, Janet Snyder. Ross was born June 23, 1920 in a log cabin in Kalispell, Montana, riding his first horse at the age of 4. He graduated from Osseo High School at the age of 16, attended the University of Minnesota graduating with a law degree in March of 1942. Ross and Jane were married in Washington D.C. on December 18, 1943 days before Ross went off for service abroad. Ross, having enlisted in the Navy, was a bomb disposal expert stationed in the South Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a LT JG. Ross worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 19 years, handling complex Interstate Commerce Commission cases for a number of years. Ross went on to work for Archers Daniels for 5 years leaving there to become President and CEO for National Car Rental. In 1973 Ross went into the private practice of law with his close friend Harlan Perbix. For the remainder of his professional career Ross practiced law in the western suburbs, including much of that time with what is now the Thorfinnson Law Offices. Son Tom joined Ross in the practice in 1980. Ross was the consummate advocate for his clients, actively litigating cases well into his late 70's. In 1973 Ross was elected to the Orono School Board and served for 8 years finishing as Chairman. Ross was a Rotarian for over 30 years and is a Paul Harris Fellow, having been first a member of the Minneapolis Rotary Club and later the Hopkins Rotary Club. Ross enjoyed his retirement years riding horses at his farm in Medina and fishing at his second home in the Florida Keys. On Saturday, Dec. 9, there will be a gathering of family and friends from 10:00 - 11:30 AM. The celebration of Ross' life will be at 11:30 AM, with lunch to follow, all to be held at the City of Independence Town Hall, 1920 County Rd. 90, Independence, MN.
