Rozalija Gannon Obituary Rozalija Gannon (Mavric) was born in 1928 to a free and independent Slovenia. The country was deeply rooted in early history, education, the arts and in Catholic values. She got to grow up in the picturesque city of Ljubliana, Slovenia where she attended grade school and high school under the spiritual guidance of the Ursuline Sisters. She spoke five languages. In 1945, as communists were taking over and her pro-democracy family faced persecution, she bravely escaped her country.
During the next three years she pursued a medical education at Graz University in Austria where she live with her parents and three brothers, in Displaced Persons' camps, that turned out to be abandoned POW camps. She then arrived, by herself, in America, in 1948. She worked and saved her way to earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. Paul, her soon to be husband, was in medical school there at the same time. Their love story started when her picture was in the school newspaper. While she had many pursuers at the time, Paul stood out and he always loved and respected her.
She was employed and worked in Olympia, Washington, Munich, Germany, San Diego, California and Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis for a total of 20 years. She belonged to numerous societies, including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and several investment clubs.
Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Paul Gannon. Rozalija is survived by her four children, Barbara Gannon, Paul Gannon, Dr. James Gannon (Dr. Tracey), Mary Ann Gannon Heine (James); three grandchildren, Moly Elizabeth Gannon, James Fuchs Gannon and Caroline Apolonija Heine.
Funeral service will be held at The Lakewood Chapel, 36th and Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis on Thursday July 25, 10 AM with a visitation before. Friends and family are invited to witness the burial, at Lakewood Cemetery, immediately following the service, followed by a lunch reception held at the Lakewood Mausoleum Garden Reception hall just nearby.
