Shirley Lauber Obituary Shirley Marie Lauber, 85, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, at Trouvaille Memory Care Suites in Excelsior, MN.
Shirley was born in 1939 to John and Tyne (Johnson) Aho in Cherry, MN. She was baptized in 1939 and confirmed in 1953 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church Suomi Synod in Cherry, MN. Shirley graduated in 1957 from Cherry High School and from Hibbing Junior College in 1959. She was united in marriage to Darrell H. Lauber in 1960, at Grace Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod in Hibbing, MN. While attending college, Shirley worked as a cashier at the Red Owl Grocery store and as a secretary at the Hibbing Recreation Office. After graduating from college, she worked at the Minneapolis Bureau of Engraving, Hibbing Tribune, Adams Clinic and US Steel where her typing skills were known to be exceptional.
Darrell and Shirley moved to Grand Rapids, MN in 1962 and joined the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids that same year. They built their home and raised beef cattle, horses, chickens, and German Short Hair dogs. Shirley was involved as a 4-H leader and was active at First Lutheran Church serving on many committees and teaching Sunday & Vacation Bible School. Shirley enjoyed sewing, reading, and doing crafts of every sort, especially painting. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, working in her yard, gardening, and snowshoeing through the woods in the winter.
She is survived by her daughter Lori; sons Mark (Sherry) and Paul; grandchildren Collin (Lucy), Colton, Kristin (Connor) McCabe, Kyle, Ryan, and Sarah; and a great granddaughter Abarrane.
Preceding her in death were her husband Darrell, her parents, brothers Ralph and infant Melvin Aho.
The family would like to thank Grace Hospice and her family of caregivers at Trouvaille for their wonderful care.
A Memorial Service will be held for Shirley at 11AM on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 735 NE 1st Avenue, Grand Rapids, MN with visitation starting at 10AM prior to the service. Interment will be at 2 PM at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing, MN.
Arrangements are with the David Lee Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Wayzata.
