Synnove Bakke Obituary
Bakke, Synnve Helene
(Nossen)
Age 89, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2015. Beloved wife, mother, bestemor, aunt and friend, Synnve will be greatly missed. Her vibrant personality, wit and caring manner brightened the lives of so many friends and those who came to know her. Despite having Alzheimers the last years of her life, she shared the sparkle in her eye and ever present laughter with everyone she met. Alzheimers stole much of her memory, but the essence of who she was still shined through: caring, wise, strong, lively and engaging.
Synnve was born to Ingeborg og Lauritz Nossen in Lrdal, Norway, Aug. 23, 1925. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her four older brothers Kre, Johan, Hkon, and Magne; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and one niece. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Harald, and children Paul (Ellen) Bakke and Anne Marie (Ottar Kristiansen) Bakke; five grandchildren Rowan, Siri, Tristan, Aleksander and Mathias; three sisters-in-law, eleven nieces, five nephews and many close friends.
Her father was a Lutheran minister, and when she was

the family moved to Fredrikstad, Norway, where she lived for the remainder of her childhood. In 1949 she moved to Oslo and began nursing studies at Ullevl Sykehus, where she formed life-long friendships. She came to Minneapolis in 1952 on a nursing exchange program. Here she met Harald, the love of her life. She lived in Seattle and in Oslo before the couple married in Minneapolis on April 14, 1956. Synnove worked at Asbury Methodist hospital and then Fairview hospital in Minneapolis as an R.N. until 1962.
After having children Synnve worked in the home, creating one that was warm and inviting. She and Harald enjoyed having friends visit their home on Kingsview Lane and at their cabin near Hayward, WI. She was an active member of Mindekirken, the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church. She also enjoyed gardening, skiing, boating and fishing. Her family brought her joy and she particularly loved spending time with her grandchildren.
The Bakke family is thankful for the wonderful care that she received at Presbyterian Homes Lake Minnetonka Shores the last 2-1/2 years. They are also forever grateful for Jamie Pfaffs caregiving the last five years of Synnoves life.
A memorial service to celebrate Synnve's life will be held on Mon., Aug. 17th, 11 a.m., at Mindekirken, 924 E 21st St., Minneapolis, MN 55404. A reception in the fellowship hall follows the service. Memorials may be sent to Mindekirken or the charity of your choice.
