Tim Hanberg Obituary January 9, 1954-June 6, 2023
Tim Roy Hanberg passed away on June 6, 2023, after a long battle with liver disease. He was in the company of his immediate family at his home in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Tim was born on January 9, 1954, as the second of six children, to Ted and Nan Hanberg in Ekalaka, Montana. He grew up mainly in California and was active in many sports including football, baseball, soccer as well as playing trumpet in his high school band. From 1973-1975, he served a 2-year full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New England. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University with a double major in Business and Communications. In 1979, he married Karen Hutchinson in Washington DC.
Known for his dad jokes and awkwardly timed puns, he always managed to keep things lively. He worked for Kraft Foods for 31years and held a variety of sales and marketing roles in 10 different states. He was active in his community, especially in helping numerous young men earn their Eagle Scout awards by showing them how to organize their Eagle projects and providing a framework for accomplishing projects on time. He was an avid book enthusiast and self-proclaimed movie critic and was also active in skiing, hiking, playing sports with friends, traveling the world, and going on scenic drives (usually against his young childrens wishes). He and Karen completed two service missions locally for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, administratively supporting the Minneapolis Mission Office (2014-2015) and later the Home Storage Center which serves needy families (2019-2021).
Tim was a proud father and even prouder grandfather. He is survived by his wife Karen, his four children Jason (Amanda) Hanberg, Heather (Brett) Lindsay, Cameron (Madison) Hanberg, and Courtney (Scott) Schwieger, and 12 grandchildren: Grant, Dashell, Anna, Clark, Teagan, and Sydney Hanberg, Parker, Tate, Benny, and Brody Lindsay, and Sadie and Otto Schweiger. He is also survived by his five siblings: Fran Graham, and Rob, Brett, Lance, and Lori Hanberg. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10th at 10:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 330 Vicksburg Lane N, Plymouth, MN 55447. A luncheon will follow the services. The family will hold a private interment at Holy Name Cemetery in Medina, Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or making a monetary contribution to the American Red Cross in gratitude for the numerous blood products that helped extend Tims life.
