Virginia Ridgway Obituary
Ridgway, Virginia S. "Ginney Sue" "She may be small, but so is a stick of dynamite" read her high school yearbook. Age 74, of Wayzata, Ginney Sue passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 3rd. Born November 12, 1937 in Minneapolis, preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte (Punky) Learned Ridgway, father James R. Ridgway, Sr., and stepmother Julia Weed Henry Ridgway. Survived by sons, Steve (Bonnie) Adams, Mark Adams, Kent (Mandy) Adams, and Scott (Lynn) Adams; her 9 grandchildren, Addie, Blake, Charlie, Connor, Jordan, Julia, Lilia, Olivia, and Ruby; brother, James (Sukey) Ridgway and sister, Holly (Rick) Madden. A "Newton Avenue" kid growing up in Kenwood and a 1955 graduate of the Northrop Collegiate School, Ginney Sue spent two years at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY intending to major in fashion and merchandising. In 1958, she moved to New Haven, Connecticut and Yale University to begin married life. While there, she taught classes to underprivileged teenage girls and gave birth to her first son. Moving back to Minneapolis in 1959, where she lived the remainder of her life except for two great years in Palo Alto, CA, she dedicated herself to being a selfless mother raising her four boys, mostly on her own. Being a cheerleader in High School and Captain of the "White Team" at Northrop instilled in her the desire to be intensely involved in supporting the boys (and eventually her grandchildren) in their athletic and other activities. Over time, she volunteered generously for several organizations, including The Dumbo Chapter of Children's Hospital of Minneapolis, The Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities, and the Junior Leagues of Minneapolis and San Francisco. She was an avid reader, gardener, and collector and also sold real estate for 15 years with Roger Fazendin Realtors. Throughout the years Ginney formed dear close friends sharing loyalty, laughter, and support: Sarah, Sally, Judy, Barbi, Kathy and Bob, Irene and Ron, Marnie and Mark, Fran, and Leslie amongst many others. She was a compassionate woman with an open heart and was easy to forgive and accept people unconditionally, especially those she loved and cared about. We will miss her extreme kindness and generosity. The family is incredibly thankful to her loving caregivers who supported her in her home during the last few months, including Allina Hospice, Caring Hearts at Home and Comfort Keepers, and to her loving friend Sarah whose friendship and time over the past several years has not been forgotten. Services will be held at the Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 36th and Hennepin Avenue, on Thursday, October 11 at 10 a.m. Luncheon reception to follow at Minikahda Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Minnesota Humane Society or the Boys and Girls Club of Minnesota
