Walford A.
Schwab
June 16, 1938 – March 27, 2026
Walford A. Schwab (Wally), age 87 of Chanhassen, MN, died peacefully on March 27, 2026 at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia, MN.
Wally was born on June 16th, 1938 in Bloomington, IL. He is the son of the late Dorothea Juilane Schwab (Dea) and the late Walford August Schwab, D.O. (Doc). Wally is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Bravo-Schwab, three children, Drew Schwab (Kelly), Kari Schwab and Matthew Schwab (Katie), granddaughters Nora, Faith, Abby, Ivy and Ezrah as well as two brothers, Ted Schwab and Gus Schwab along with numerous nieces. Wally is preceded in death by his brother, Tom Loftus.
Wally grew up in Chicago, IL with summers at the family cabin on Namakan Lake, Ontario, Canada and spent his later childhood years in both Minneapolis, MN and at the cabin on Namakan Lake. He attended high school at Marshall High in Minneapolis and spent the majority of his working career in various roles at Haas Display in Minneapolis, MN, until his retirement over 20 years ago.
Wally was a very skilled wood worker and builder who could engineer and create just about anything. He very much enjoyed building and creating things for himself as well as his family such as wooden step stools for each of his granddaughters. Wally also very much enjoyed target shooting with Cheri at Stock & Barrel Gun Club in Chanhassen, including reloading rounds for more time at the range as well as for Cheri's competitive mounted shooting events, where he would proudly cheer her on.
Wally's favorite place to be was the family cabin, located across the Minnesota border on Namakan Lake in Ontario, Canada. Over many summer seasons, he led the family in restoring the 1920's era log home back to its original likeness to become the beautiful and rustic cabin it is today. In addition to restoring and maintaining the cabin for all to enjoy, he relished fishing, cooking, listening to music and relaxing at the cabin with loved ones.
Wally will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband to his precious wife Cheri, with whom he shared over 25 years of love, caring for one another and so many adventures. As "Dad", he was the rock of his family, always present and available for his children with abundant love and kindness along with his deep and loud voice cheering on his kids from the sidelines of nearly every soccer game. Wally was also a dog dad who loved on so many furry friends over the years, including Kimber who misses his loving head-pats and companionship. Wally's gentle kindness, loving care, steady dedication and eye-rolling "Wally-ism" jokes will be so dearly missed as he left an indelible mark of kind-heartedness on everyone he touched.
The family is planning a small memorial service for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made in Wally's name to the Voyageurs Conservancy , which supports Voyageurs National Park in and around Namakak Lake. Online donations: https://www.voyageurs.org/give
