Johnson, Walter C.
Age 87 of Minnetonka, MN (former resident of Rio Verde, AZ) passed away May 29, 2013. Preceded in death by his wife Janet. Survived by sisters, Mildred Carlson and Lorraine Anderson; children, Steven (Sheryl) of Lakeville, James (Cheryl) of Orono, Karen (Pat) Stewart of Plymouth; grandchildren, Matthew (Kim) Naruko-Stewart, Brian (Amber) Johnson, Megan (Josh) Rick, Neil (Marie) Johnson, Corey Johnson and Drew Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Jakob, Emma, Piper, Aiden, Jackson, Joseph, Oliver, Fiona, Clara, and Aben.
Walter graduated from Edison High School, served in the Navy 1943-46 as a Navy pilot. He earned his business degree from the University of Minnesota, and his CPA at the University of Illinois. He later completed his Masters degree at Rutgers. He began his career in Chicago, moving to northeast Minneapolis in 1953 to work at Peat Marwick & Mitchell. He joined Northwest National Bank as controller, and later became Bancos executive vice president, and president of the financial services co. of Norwest. He retired in 1984 to enjoy his home in Rio Verde, AZ, and his cabin in Pequot Lakes, MN with family and friends.
Walter was a member of the Minneapolis Club, Wayzata and Rio Verde Country Clubs, and the Rio Verde Community Church. Memorial service will be held at 1PM on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church, 17205 County Road 6, Plymouth. Visitation will be from 6-8PM on Friday, May 31 at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E. Wayzata Blvd. Wayzata, and also one hour prior to service at church. Memorials preferred to U of M Carlson School of Business, Walter and Janet Johnson Scholarship Fund.
He will be missed by family, friends, and his poodle Gabriel.
