Willard Powers Obituary
Powers, Willard Bill Suffered a brain injury in falling on ice at his home, January 10, 2008, and died in the trauma center of Hennepin County Medical Center at 1:30 p.m., January 18, 2008. He was born September 12, 1931 in Danville, Illinois to Dorothea and John Russell Powers, deceased. Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Valerie Powers, of Minneapolis, and Laura Powers Thomas (John), and three grandchildren, Rachel, Katherine and William Thomas, all of McKinney, TX. Bill and Marilyn grew up together in Urbana, IL, and were married there, Feb. 22, 1953, when Bill returned from serving with the IL National Guard, 106 Tank Battalion, during the Korean War. Bill completed his education at the University of Illinois. His career included design and building of city sewer and water treatment systems, estimating costs and managing the construction of hi rises, miter gates, and bridge piers, specializing in the placement of concrete for general contractors based in IL and Minnesota. Bill and Marilyn lived in Deephaven for many years before moving near Watertown, MN, where they reside in the home Bill designed and built after his retirement. Bill will be missed by his family and all those he cared for and served so well. Memorial service 2:00 pm Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata, Minnesota 55391. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Wayzata Community Church.
