Obituary

William Gross Obituary Born April 17, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of William J. Gross Sr. and Elsie Paegel Gross. He passed away in Rochester, MN on August 18, 2010 at the age of 82. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Dorothy Stafford (Mark) and Carol Gross and brother Harv Gross (Polly). He is survived by his wife Jae Carmene Doeksen Gross, daughter Lisa Jo Gross Crees (Steven) of Plymouth, MN, sons Steven Gross (Toni) of Keystone, SD and Dr. David Gross (Tera) of Orono, MN and eight grandchildren Juli Crees, Michael Crees, SteviRae Gross, Melissa Crees, Alexander Gross, Parker Gross, Chloe Gross, and Benjamin Gross, as well as many other family members and friends.He attended Minneapolis Public Schools and graduated from West High in 1946. He loved sports and was on the football, basketball and golf teams. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1951 with a 5-year Engineering Degree. While at the University he was a member of the All University Congress and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and continued to play football and golf. Upon graduation he also received a Reserve Commission as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. On December 28, 1951, he married Jae Carmene Doeksen in Minot, N.D. He was called to active duty in March of 1952 serving with the Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge Carmene and Bill lived in Minot for 39 years. He was in business in Minot and active in the community and his church. Since his retirement he has lived in Plymouth, MN. enjoying golf, duplicate bridge and traveling. Bill and Carmene enjoyed many cruises throughout the world. Bill was a spectator at many ball games with his children and also sometimes with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed the grandchildren and their activities and sporting events. He attended many of their games and was affectionately known as "Grampa". He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.Services to be held on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 3 PM, with visitation starting at 2 PM at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E. Wayzata Blvd. Wayzata, MN. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mayo Clinic Heart and Cardiovascular Respiratory Program, 200 1st St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905 or Ridgeview Foundation, 490 South Maple St., Suite 110, Waconia, MN 55387 are preferred.
