Hickok, Barbara Anne 88, died on December 1, 2020. Born in Westfield, New Jersey on December 14, 1931, the daughter of Allan and Catherine Butz.
Barbara graduated from Derham Hall High School in 1949. She went on to graduate from The University of Minnesota with a degree in elementary education. She married Eugene Hickok in 1953 and together they raised eight children. Her family was her passion and she blessed them in countless ways. Primarily being “Mom” but always had time to individually support, share a conversation, lend a hand or “provide direction” in her inimitable way. Barbara was a generous woman of faith who led a full and active life. She was instrumental in leading the success of many charities and other causes. Faced with an undertaking where she could make a positive contribution, she took action, especially with the Church, schools or food for the hungry. Barbara was well read, opinionated and we enjoyed her quick wit. She loved classical music, the piano, decades of church choir and had a talent for ballroom dance, participating in many competitions with her husband.
Mourning her passing is her husband of 67 years, Eugene Hickok; children, Beth of Bozeman, MT, Allan (Gabriella) of Palos Verdes, CA, Stephen (Nancy) of Orono, Anne (Matt) of Katonah, NY, Christopher (Elizabeth) of Orono, Meaghan (Jim) of Deephaven; 16 beloved grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Sando, of Edina and Carol Butz; and many loving relatives. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Catherine Hickok, and son, Matthew Eugene Hickok.
A family Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, December 5 at St. Therese Church in Deephaven, MN. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Living Well, 1885 Upper 55th St. E., Inver Grove Heights, MN 55077, or to the Matthew Hickok Memorial Scholarship at Benilde - St. Margaret's School - bsmschool.org
