Age 93, of Wayzata, Minnesota, passed away June 5th. Preceded in death by Ann, loving wife of 61 years. Survived by daughter, Sandy Nebel (Mark); son, Scott Emery (Colleen); grandson, Eric Nebel; and granddaughters, Claire and Anna Emery. Don grew up in north central Illinois, received his bachelor's degree at Knox College, and his PhD at Purdue University where he met Ann. They moved to Minnesota where they raised their family and Don spent his career working as a technical lab manager of food safety, quality, and research at General Mills. In retirement Don and Ann wintered in Tucson and summered in Minnesota. Don cared deeply about family, church, and the environment. He was active at Mizpah United Church of Christ, The Nature Conservancy, Tate Lake Association, Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations, and Tohono Chul Gardens & Galleries. Don enjoyed the Minnesota Orchestra, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, hiking, traveling, and visiting the many parks and trails of the North Shore and Arizona. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 18th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at the Wayzata Community Church (Chapel), 125 Wayzata Blvd. E., Wayzata, MN 55391. Memorials preferred to The Nature Conservancy and the Alzheimer’s Association.
