Age 94 of Shorewood, passed away on August 29, 2018. She was preceded in death by mother and father, Jenny and Glenn Rodgers; her husband of 57 years, Edward Asplin and daughter, Lynn E. Asplin. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah L. Asplin; son, William R. Asplin (wife, Pamela) and nine grandchildren, Glenn, Steven, Will (wife, Heather), Grace and Faith Asplin, Kristin, Anders, Jorgen and Gretchen Hoff and great granddaughter; Annabelle Asplin. Elly graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Coe College in 1946. She was able to earn her degree in four years even with a year of service to the war industries in Rock Island, IL. She moved to Minneapolis in 1947 and met and married her husband, Edward in 1951. Raising three children, volunteering, traveling and enjoying friends and family over a quick game of bridge kept her occupied. In later years she was a voracious reader and enjoyed volunteering at Opportunity Partners. She actively supported the Minnesota Symphony, Guthrie Theater, Children's Hospital, Mt. Olivet and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Churches. Homes in the North Woods and the West Coast of Florida fueled her passion for flowers. She enjoyed all aspects of gardening, especially testing her children’s woeful lack of knowledge about any and all flora and fauna. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 6 at 12 Noon at The Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. Interment will follow the service and then a light lunch will be served at Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Opportunity Partners-Asplin Center, 5500 Opportunity Court, Minnetonka, MN 55343.
