Elizabeth "Betty" Byrne Hancock

May 1, 2022

Elizabeth “Betty” Byrne Hancock

Elizabeth passed away suddenly on the weekend of Saturday, April 30th at the age of 73. Her beloved cat, who had been one of her faithful feline companions for years was by her side when she died.  Betty had a warm heart, loved her family fiercely, and while tiny in stature she made up for her big and tender personality.

Betty attended Annie Wright School in Tacoma, WA and Valley School for Girls in Tucson, AZ. She loved the outdoors and was always up for an adventure.  As a young girl, her father, who was a pilot, encouraged her to take flying lessons. He was beyond proud to watch Betty embrace her bold nature, and his passion for aviation, as she flew solo in a Cessna 150.  Betty enjoyed the company of her beloved cats and her partner, Michael Fennema, until his death a few years ago.

Betty will be laid to rest on May 14th, at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.  Betty was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Hancock, her mother, Patricia Tenney, her stepmother, Dorothy Hull, and her sister, Susan Tenney Sellwood.  She is survived by her sister, Kitty Stevenson, her brothers, David (Katherine)Tenney and Jay (Joni) Hancock, her nieces, Jenny Henry (Hayden), Julia Henry, Alexandra Tenney-Katzenstein (Max and Gray), nephews, William Henry (Kathleen, Addison, and Harper), William Tenney (Miranda), Tommy Whitworth, Jack Tenney, Andrew Whitworth, cousins, Trish Loomis, Jody Stevenson, Sheila McKay, Kelly Coleman, Kerry Epley, and numerous extended family members. Betty will be missed by those who knew her, those who loved her, and those who wanted the best for her.
