Henrietta Louise Medcalf of Plymouth Minnesota passed away August 24, 2021. Henrietta was born October 25, 1924 to Henry and Mathilda Mueller in Stewartville Minnesota. She was the last of eight children, four sisters and four brothers. Her family was devoted to community service, centered on her father’s vocation as a Missouri Synod Lutheran minister. Henrietta, like her siblings, excelled in schoolwork in Missouri Valley Iowa, the Mueller residence from 1930.
Two activities of note were Spelling Bee champ at age ten and participation in high school band. The 1940s were glorious, meeting her future husband William Medcalf in 1940, followed by their marriage in 1943, various of William’s military stationings during World War Two, and the 1947-49 birth of two children. Later, she was a rock in hard times, notably giving life long love and care to her husband. Her children likewise received love and unswerving guidance, which was riveted on achieving educational and career success. She was so well grounded, with a strong moral compass and set such an excellent example of leadership styled with love, sweetness, patience, wisdom, hard work, resilience, and forward planning. In later life gardening was an enthusiastic pursuit at her Richfield residence, home for 69 years. During the past 16 years she had the opportunity to unwind and enjoy travel and the joy of being a grandmother.
Henrietta will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Henrietta is preceded in death by husband William Medcalf and survived by son Tom Medcalf, daughter Linda Medcalf Netzel, son-in-law Jim Netzel, and granddaughters Laura and Emily Medcalf.
A private immediate family service and burial will be held at Lakewood Cemetery August 31.
