Judith Godfrey Obituary

Judy Godfrey, 94, of Wayzata, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday April 18, 2020.

Judith Margaret Krogstad was born on the family farm on January 17, 1926 in Sletten Township, near Winger in northwest Minnesota, daughter of Jens and Julia Krogstad. She graduated from Macintosh High School in 1943 and started her college career at Bemidji State University.  The following year she began nurses training at Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Judith was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII.

In 1947 Judy went to finish nurses training at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa.  It was there that she met Ted Godfrey.  Ted and Judy were married on September 30, 1950 in Knoxville and lived all their married life in the Knoxville area.  Judy retired from the V. A. hospital in 1982 after 35 years of service as a registered nurse.

Judy was skilled at sewing, quilting, and baking (she was especially good at pies and lefse). She loved singing in church and community choir. As young adults she and Ted participated in local musical theatre, softball and bowling. She enjoyed playing pitch and Kings-in-the Corner, puzzles, and birdwatching.  Judy also loved dogs, reading poetry, and cheering on the Twins.  For many years she was actively involved as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Central Iowa, Knoxville Public Library, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her brother Blanchard Krogstad and sister Evelyn Rorem; sons Mark (Patty) Godfrey of Panora, Gregg (Becky) Godfrey of Burlington, and daughter Holly (Tom McMullin) Godfrey of Minnetonka, Minnesota; and her granddaughters Grace, Sophia, Elaine, Glenna, and Olivia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Gilmour and Reuben; husband Ted; and grandson Stewart.

A celebration of Life for Judy Godfrey will be held at a later date.
