Kenneth Allen Zastrow
age 77, peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, November 30th, 2020 at home in Folkestone of Wayzata. Ken was born on June 24th, 1943 in St. Paul to Egner & Phyllis (Swenson) Zastrow. The family lived in Alexandria MN, New Effington SD, and Wheaton MN where he met Marilyn. They met in 1959 and married in 1964. He borrowed a phrase from Willie Nelson to describe this moment in life, stating she was an angel flying too close to the ground. Thru 56 years together, they learned how love is patient and kind. Marilyn worked to help Ken get thru his two college degrees, an undergrad from UofM Morris in 1965 and Master of Math from St. Cloud St. in 1972. He enjoyed his career in education and finance. He was a Math, Computer Science and Finance teacher, School District Business Manager & Executive and leader at the MN State Dept. of Education. A highlight was being president of the MASBO in 1996-97. They were blessed with 3 children from 1968-1971. Marilyn kept the home and cared for the children in their early years while Ken taught. Many weekends were spent camping and at the lake. The family moved from Kensington to Montevideo and then Blaine MN during this time. He retired in 2000 and together they enjoyed the lake home near Alexandria MN, RV’ing around the USA and in 2003 they moved to Robson Ranch near Denton TX. In July 2013, at the age of 70, Ken was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma. In 2017 they moved to the senior living community of Folkestone in Wayzata MN. With the help of hospice, Ken was blessed with a precious year after his last treatment in 2019. Ken viewed his greatest achievements as his faith in Jesus Christ his Savior, as Marilyn’s husband and his 3 children and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Egner and Phyllis, sister-in-law Debbie and brother-in-law John Hennen. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children Jocelyn Allen (Mark), Paul (Nancy), and Eric (Jodie); his grandchildren Lindsey, Lauren, Megan White (Brendan), Ben, Olivia and Mia; his siblings Jack (Linda), Dale (Ilene), Scott and Judy. A private memorial service with a live stream will be held on Saturday, December 12th, 2020 at Wayzata Community Church at 11am. Link is here: http://www.twincitiessound.com/KennethZastrow
