Linda Johnson Obituary

Linda M. Johnson, our beloved sister, age 74, died peacefully in the early morning of June 28, 2019,

at Ebenezer Care Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Linda was the first of three children born to Margaret and Lowell A.F. Johnson, on October 10, 1944, in

Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  Two brothers, Kenric and Blair, soon arrived in their home on Kentucky Avenue in St. Louis Park. After three years in St. Cloud, Minnesota, they made a move to Rangoon, Burma, where Lowell was sponsored by the Ford Foundation to teach carpentry and building construction.

She excelled academically, in spite of a prolonged setback with hepatitis during three years in Burma. The family returned to the Wayzata, Minnesota, in 1959 and Linda graduated in the top ten of her high school class. She studied library science at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, then completed a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy three years later at the University of Minnesota. Her publication in AJOT, a peer-reviewed journal, was based on a feeding assessment which she evaluated, leading to her Master's Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, in 1982. With this background, she held a variety of responsible OT positions around the country.

Raised in the Lutheran tradition, her spiritual life and faith led her to California with Campus Crusade for Christ, Seattle Lutheran Bible Institute, Bethany Fellowship in Minneapolis, Youth with a Mission in Hawaii, to Poland with International Messengers, and to Tianjin University, China, to teach English as a Second Language.  Linda had a loving spirit and a willing heart for all she met, frequently initiating conversations when the opportunity arose, and throughout her life contributing her time and resources to a variety of Christian ministries.

She is survived by two brothers: Kenric (Linda) of Sheridan, Wyoming and Blair of Minneapolis; two nieces, Brianna (Joel) Jackson with three children; Kirstin (John) Hamrick; and one nephew, Nathan, all of Denver, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Margaret Johnson.
