On April 11, 2022, Mavis Ilene Myhran was welcomed home by her husband Dean, son Brooks, brothers John “Arden” and Stanley Anderson, and loving parents John “Swede” and Selma Anderson.
Born December 2, 1927 in Brookston, Minnesota into humble beginnings, Mavis’ life was filled with adventure, a loving family and adoring friends. She and Dean married on September 6, 1952 and made their first home at the Hartley Building in Duluth, Minnesota. During the decade pre-kids, Dean and Mavis enjoyed the “high society” of 1950’s Duluth, filling their days with sailing on Lake Superior, skiing, sports cars, weekends at friends’ cabins and dinners at the Kitchi Gammi Club. They welcomed Brooks Dean (1961), Erik Kyle (1962) and Anders Dale (1967) to their family and in 1969 relocated to Wayzata, Minnesota. A devoted wife and mother, the family enjoyed numerous ski trips out west, all things Wayzata basketball, and above all a home with an unlocked front door that was open and welcome to one and all.
After graduating from high school in 1945, Mavis tried her hand as a nursing aid but quickly realized that wasn’t her calling. She attended business school and in 1946 started working in the Probation Office in the Court House as a secretary. She worked there for 14 years becoming an office manager, and in her own words “loving it!” After the family settled in Wayzata, Mavis worked and volunteered at Wayzata Community Church in a variety of roles on and off for over two decades.
A gifted cultivator of friendship, she was an attentive listener and interested in every aspect of your life. She’s been described as classy, sassy and feisty. She was full of life and endeared herself to everyone she met. She was wicked at crossword puzzles, a Kennedy clan devotee and avid reader.
A doting mother and grandmother, Mavis is survived by her sons Erik (Teri), Anders (Lynn), grandchildren: Austin (Libby), Bennett (Jenny), Chase (Marisa), Lindsay (Vince) Garver, Blake (Tara), Sarah, Hartley, Livia, and great-grandsons Corky Ray Myhran and Jack Louis Myhran.
Service in the Chapel at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd East on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 10:00 AM followed by a brief reception in the Colonnade.
