Mervin Floyd Larson

age 73, of Excelsior, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020 at his home. Merv was born January 2, 1947 in Fairmont, MN, the son of Sylvan E. and Irene V. (Boettcher) Larson. He was raised on a farm in Martin County and attended East Chain School, graduating in 1965. He attended Augsburg College and graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Coaching. He worked as a phy-ed teacher and coached multiple high school sports before becoming a Certified Orthotist with Fairview Hospital. Merv opened Metropolitan Orthotics Lab, Inc. in 1990 and became known nationally for his skill in spinal orthotics. He retired from the work he loved in 2015. He enjoyed being a grandfather, working with his hands, spending time outdoors, and attending Minnesota Gopher sporting events. His friends and family describe him as a principled, honest man who was generous with his time, knowledge, and money. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; a dedicated and hardworking business owner; and an avid Minnesota sports fan. Merv is survived by his wife Melissa Larson, son Ryan Larson and partner Molly Smith, daughter Rachel McDougall, daughter Kristin and husband Jayson Babler, son Matthew and wife Brenna Larson, brother Ralph Larson, and grandchildren: Allie, Liam & Emma. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harvey P. Larson. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church,16515 Luther Way in Eden Prairie, MN with visitation from 9:30-10:45. Burial and graveside service to follow approximately 2:30 PM at East Chain Lutheran Cemetery, East Chain, MN.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Golden Gopher Fund, 516 15th Ave. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455, and directed to the “Merv & Melissa Larson Scholarship”, which benefits the Gopher Softball program.
