Nancy Hellberg Obituary

Nancy Reed Hellberg, beloved mother, wife and grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on January 6, 2023 in Minneapolis, MN. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Kurt, daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Julian Bowen-Rees, grandson Thomas Bowen-Rees of Richmond, Virginia, nieces Nancy Lee Johnston, Linda Tolman and nephew, Scott Reed.

She was preceded in death by brother, Harold Reed, sisters Dorothy Johnston and Phyllis Kimball, and parents Elsie and Harold Reed.

Nancy was born on November 18, 1934 and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her undergraduate degree in Education from Boston State Teachers College, followed by a Masters degree from the University of Massachusetts. She enjoyed a long and satisfying career as an elementary school teacher, ultimately retiring from the Wayzata School System in 2001 after more than 20 years.

Nancy and Kurt have been active members of Wayzata Community Church for over 50 years.  This community has brought them many treasured friendships and fulfillment over the years.  She also loved visiting family in Boston and on Cape Cod and spending time with her daughter and family in the UK and Europe, and later in Richmond, Virginia.

A Memorial service will be held at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Boulevard, Wayzata on Thursday January 26th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests a donation to Boys Town, National Glaucoma Research, American Stroke Association.
