Peter Jay Fischer
Our beloved Peter, age 53, transitioned on and earned his angel wings on January 22, 2023 in the comfort of his home in Wayzata, MN closely surrounded by family. He left behind his longtime partner of 17 years, Joanie Cunningham; loving parents, Jerry and Helen Ann Fischer; brother, Jim (Brenda, Marshall, Mason); sister, Dianna (Mike, Andrew, Brittney, Danielle, Jake); sister, Tiffani (Greg, Abbi, Carson, Ailie). Along with 9 grand nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his grandparents, Clarence and Lillian Fischer; Glendon and Helen MacDonald.
Peter was born January 13, 1970 in St. Louis Park, MN. After graduating from Hopkins High School in 1988, he attended NDSU, completing his degree at the University of MN, Twin Cities. His entire career was in IT technical recruiting.
A wonderful friend, son and brother who courageously fought a 4 year, 4 month battle with colon cancer.
We’re so proud of Peter's character through his battle. A character that embraced being kind to everyone, who was fun, funny, loving and just the right amount of mischievous. He held strong for so long. Hero.
Peter always brought a smile to everyone’s face and had many, many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Wayzata and also US Bank, where he worked. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, share a story and evoke that same spirit of fun in each person he knew.
He loved sports, being outdoors and traveling. He could talk tirelessly, and with great enthusiasm, on the statistics of football, hockey, baseball and soccer (and more!) and was always the first to try new things on his adventures around the world. Spiced cricket anyone?!
Peter was the best of all of us. He was the very definition of resilience. He has had so many things thrown at him and he kept standing back up, smile on his face, positive attitude, joking around, sharing a story and ready to keep moving forward. For those that knew Peter well, WOW, isn't that true.
A private, immediate family only, service will be held Feb. 10th at the Minnetonka United Methodist Church.
In honor of Peter’s memory, Joanie and the Fischer family are holding a celebration of his life at the American Legion in Wayzata, 949 East Wayzata Boulevard, on Friday, Feb. 10th from 12-3PM. We invite everyone who knew him to attend and remember Peter by spending time together, sharing a good story and laughing at the memory of Peter’s great witty banter. We ask attendees to wear their #TeamPeter t-shirts and/or other fun sporting attire (he liked his sports!).
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation (checks made to Joanie Cunningham) to help pay for Peter’s remaining medical expenses.
