Robert Stewart Past
Born on August 10, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Lottie (Applebaum) and Sheldon Past, Bob, and sister Donna, grew up in several states, but primarily in Kings Park, New York. Directly from high school, Bob entered the Coast Guard and was a proud member from 1968-1972. He traveled the world including trips to Antarctica and the Arctic aboard the icebreaker Edisto. At the end of his service Bob was stationed in Milwaukee doing search and rescue on Lake Michigan. While there he met his wife Sue through her brother Steve, who was stationed with Bob. They were married in 1973, and were blessed with two sons, David and Daniel.
Bob worked hard in the machining trade starting as a machine operator, becoming lead, and then a supervisor. He eventually became owner of Micro-Fab LLC, a small machine shop in Brooklyn Park. Though he sold the company in 2021 to Cass Precision Manufacturing, he continued to head the company as director.
But Bob’s real love was playing music on his guitar. As an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayzata, he was instrumental in beginning a contemporary worship service nearly 30 years ago and continued to play in the praise band there. At the time of his death, Bob was the congregational president, a member of the jail ministry, and an active participant in the men's Bible study.
Bob entered his heavenly home on January 15, 2022, surrounded by Sue, his loving wife of 48 years, his sons, David and Daniel, and David's fiancee Rachel Spencer. Bob is also survived by his step-father Michael DiMartino and his wife Pauline, brother-in-law Steven Hanson, sister-in-law Barb Hanson, nieces Amy Lessig, Mary Hanson and Kristine Hanson, and nephews Ron Duears, Michael Duears, Matthew Hanson and Benjamin Hanson.
A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayzata on Friday, April 22. Visitation will begin at 10 am with the service at 11 am. Memorials preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
