Robert "Bob" Holliday, 72, died Tuesday, November 24, 2020.
Bob was born June 21, 1948 in Chamberlain, SD to Rupert and Gladys Hollida. (The "y" was added to the family name shortly after Bob was born.) Pursuing various educational and job opportunities, the family lived in many places, including Washington, Colorado, and North Dakota. Bob graduated from New Town (ND) High School in 1966 and then from North Dakota State University in 1971. Despite his original goal to become a high school teacher and football coach, he was hired as a probation officer for the state of North Dakota and later the U.S. Government. He retired in 2004 and spent his remaining years working as a grocery store cashier, where he was always popular with the customers.
Bob's greatest joys in life included eating jelly beans and ice cream, reading his Bible as well as the Star Tribune, and listening to Twins baseball on the radio. Bob's gentle and loving spirit was felt by everyone he met. He loved spending time with family, especially his beloved great-granddaughters, Lili, Nena, and Kailani. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, including his dear friends, Sue, Sophia, and Sam.
Bob is survived by his loving children, Mike, David (Meg), and Dusty; his step-children, Bill (Vikki), Jewel (Michael), and Frank Jr (Kathryn); his mother, Gladys; his siblings, Jim (Darleen), Joann (Bob), and Scott; and a large extended family including nieces and nephews (Jeff, Wendy, Tim, Sarah, and Haley), grandchildren (Tim, Alisha, Sonny, Rachelle, Joe, Christopher, DJ, Brandon, Nathan, Maranda, Jackson, Elijah, Jonah, and Aster), and many, many great-grandchildren.
The family is planning a burial service to be held on Bob’s birthday, June 21, 2021, when we can hopefully all be together to remember him at his final resting place.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help with funeral and burial expenses.
