Stephen Keating Obituary

On Sunday February 26, 2023, Stephen Davis Keating passed away from a heroic battle with throat cancer at the age of 75; or it was the ham. He was born on July 12, 1947, in St. Paul, MN to Stephen Flaherty Keating and Mary Elizabeth (Davis) Keating.

Steve graduated from The Blake School in 1965 and from the University of Denver in 1969. Steve started at the Toro Company upon graduation from college and worked there for thirty-five years. He retired in 2003 as Assistant Treasurer and Director of Investor Relations.

At a hockey game in 1972 Steve met his partner in crime, Isabel Kinney who complimented his shoes. He asked her out on the spot and proposed on their first date. They were married six months later and celebrated 49 years of marriage last September. Steve is survived by his wife Isabel, son Stephen (Anne), two grandchildren Lucy and Molly, daughter Jessie, beloved dogs Otis and Franklin and siblings Elizabeth Schroeder (Hap), Tom Keating (Karen) and Mimi Keating.

In retirement Steve was only still when reading. Steve and his family shared many great travel adventures around the world. He relished giving back to his community through his board positions at the Metropolitan State University, The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Coffee House Press and Long Lake Planning Commission. He could be counted on to keep his family and friends in stiches with his wonderful stories. His wit and humor were a blessing to all during this difficult time and it seems a little too quiet with his passing.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life for their lovable curmudgeon at The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, when the snow retreats in the spring. Details to be announced at a later date. Steve enjoyed the beautiful natural setting, and the family celebrated several important moments there. Preferred memorials to The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
