Pratt, Walter Eggleston

 

Walter E. Pratt, 93, of Minneapolis, died on Wednesday, July 14. He was born on October 1, 1927, in Milwaukee, WI, and attended Blake School, Phillips Academy Andover, Williams College, and the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1950. In 1951, he married Harriet Palmer Jaffray, beginning their 70-year adventure together.

 

In 1961, Walter began a nearly 50-year career as a stockbroker at Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood, retiring from UBS in 2010. Walter was an avid sailor and was a member of the Minnetonka Yacht Club for 73 years, from 1936 to 2009. He loved to ski, and was a member of the National Ski Patrol at Buck Hill from 1965 to 1980. Walter was active on many boards and in many organizations in the community, and was a lifelong advocate of conservation, education, the arts, and expanding opportunities for the underserved.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry T. and Alice E. Pratt; brothers, John T. and David W. Pratt; sister, Judith A. Proudfit, and son-in-law, Jack Dilday. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Susan Dilday, Molly (William) Nagle and Jennifer (Mike) Stattelman; son, Stephen Pratt (Sarai Hoffman); grandchildren, Alice Sanders (Matt), John Nagle, Julia Dilday, Elizabeth Dilday, Jack Dilday, Emma Stattelman, Joy Wonsowicz and Ivy Lash (Jetha); great-grandchildren, Walter, Theo and Vivian Sanders and Eva and Charles Wonsowicz.

 

The Pratt family would like to thank the Folkestone Gables Care Center of Wayzata and Optage Hospice for their exceptional end-of-life care, and the staff of Halo Hospice and Home Care for all their care and support over the past eight years.
