William Baxter Obituary

Age 79, died peacefully on March 22, 2021, surrounded by his family.

He was born December 16, 1941 in Aberdeen, SD.  At the age of four, he moved with his family to Minneapolis, MN.  Bill was a 1959 graduate of Washburn High School, and a graduate of the University of Minnesota in 1963, with a B.S. degree in Business.  While at the U of M, he met Shirley Meisel, and they married on March 19, 1965.  Together, they raised their daughter, Sherri, and son, William (Bill).  They resided in Plymouth for 49 years.

Bill began his career with West Publishing, but quickly recognized opportunities in office furniture sales, working for General Office Products and later at Office Interiors, Inc.  In 1985, Bill opened his own office interior design firm, Workplace Environments Inc.  Bill had the gift of an artistic eye and a talent for design.  He designed many office interiors for businesses and organizations throughout the greater Twin Cities area.  He retired in 2004.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman and loved to snowmobile, hunt, and fish.  His love for trains and building model railroads lasted throughout his life.  He was also an accomplished artist, with an expertise in oil painting.  Bill was actively involved in his community, which included some of his favorite volunteer roles with the Optimist Club, his church, and as a docent for the Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughter, Sherri and husband Larry Christofaro, son, Bill and wife Ann Baxter, and grandchildren, Aidan Baxter and Anna and Gina Christofaro. He is preceded in death by his parents, William L. Baxter, Evelyn Hunt Baxter, and sister, Barbara Bennett.
