When Death Occurs

The overwhelming feelings of despair, disbelief, shock, and numbness caused by the passing of a loved one cannot be conveyed by mere words. Even when the death is expected, the pain that loss brings can still be devastating.  In truth, no one is completely prepared for the death of someone close to their heart.

During this difficult time, there are decisions to be made immediately, arrangements to be coordinated, and a lot of things to be considered for your loved one’s final farewell. We understand how this may feel overwhelming, especially with the grief you’re feeling over the loss. Please know that we are here to help and support you.

On this page, we’ve put together helpful information to guide you through this process.

What to do first

Call David Lee Funeral Home at 952-473-5577. Directors, Mike Lee and Mark Arnold are experienced in helping families make the necessary arrangements at this time regardless of where the death has occurred. We will handle all the details and advise you in the steps what would need to occur at this initial stage.

If death occurs out of state

When the death occurs, the family should contact David Lee Funeral Home before arranging any type of services, particularly if you wish to have his or her body transported back to David Lee Funeral Home. We will make the arrangements to have the body released and contact necessary services in that area to help with the transportation back home.

If death occurs out of country

If the death occurs while traveling outside of the United States, you will need to notify the U.S. Embassy in the country where the death occurred (though officials in the foreign country may notify the embassy for you.) Please contact us here at David Lee Funeral Home and we will assure that all the necessary procedures are administered and we will work with the embassy to get his or her body back to the United States.

The arrangements

Soon after the point that death occurs arrangement details of the funeral service will typically be planned to celebrate a life. Directors, Mike Lee or Mark Arnold, will set up a consultation time to sit down with you and go over all of the options available to commemorate the life. Our planning guide will give you some insight as to what information and decisions are commonly associated with arranging a funeral service.
